Description
- Financial Record Maintenance:
- Maintain accurate financial records of the utility’s revenues, expenses, and assets.
- Record daily transactions, including electricity sales, meter charges, and service fees.
- Billing and Collections:
- Oversee the preparation of utility bills for customers.
- Monitor and manage accounts receivable to ensure timely collections.
- Regulatory Compliance:
- Ensure adherence to accounting standards, tax laws, and utility-specific regulations.
- Prepare and submit financial reports required by regulatory bodies (e.g., energy commissions or public utility boards).
- Budgeting and Forecasting:
- Assist in preparing annual budgets for the utility.
- Analyze financial trends to forecast revenue, expenses, and capital requirements.
- Cost Management:
- Track operational costs, including electricity procurement, infrastructure maintenance, and administrative expenses.
- Analyze cost data to identify inefficiencies and propose solutions.
- Financial Reporting:
- Prepare monthly, quarterly, and annual financial statements.
- Report on the utility’s financial health to management and stakeholders.
- Audit and Internal Controls:
- Support internal and external audits by providing required documentation and explanations.
- Implement and monitor internal controls to safeguard assets and ensure financial accuracy.
- Customer Account Management:
- Resolve billing disputes or discrepancies in customer accounts.
- Update and manage customer payment records.
- Inventory and Asset Management:
- Track inventory levels of utility equipment and materials.
- Account for assets like transformers, meters, and infrastructure.
- Collaboration with Other Departments:
- Work closely with the engineering, customer service, and operations teams to align financial processes with utility operations.
